Real Food for Kids Culinary Challenge Goes Virtual

Real Food for Kids’ mission is to promote the health and well-being of every child. In honor of this commitment, we are transforming our annual Real Food for Kids Culinary Challenge into a virtual competition to keep our students and school communities safe. We are no longer holding a live event on March 21.

Instead of standing before the judges in person, students submitted a written recipe for their dish. Our panel of judges, comprised of Chefs Feeding Families collaborating chefs, will review and score each entry based on the written recipes.  The winning team will be announced on July 8th at 9:30 a.m. at Silver Cathedral Commons.   The winning lunch recipe will also be recreated and served at all Real Food for Kids: Chefs Feeding Families sites, reaching over 1000 children and families, on a designated day in July!

Students and their advisors have spent the last several months preparing for this competition. The decision to shift to a virtual format honors that work and will allow students to be recognized publicly—while putting everyone’s health and safety first.

We are also so thankful for the teachers, school leaders, elected officials, partner organizations, and others in our community who are working around the clock to respond to the coronavirus challenge. We look forward to continuing to work together in the coming year and beyond to increase access to healthy food and nutrition education for every child.
